Simulated Urban Lawns

Simulated urban lawns are controlled experimental or computer-based representations of managed grassy spaces used to examine how lawns function within cities and influence environmental conditions. By reproducing selected features such as plant composition, soil properties, mowing, irrigation, and surrounding urban stressors, researchers can isolate variables and compare outcomes under consistent conditions. These simulations support studies of biodiversity, water use, soil processes, carbon cycling, and ecological responses to heat or disturbance. They also help evaluate alternative lawn designs and management strategies, providing evidence for more resource-efficient, climate-responsive urban landscapes.
