Temperature Salinity Profile

A temperature salinity profile is a vertical record of how seawater temperature and salt concentration change with depth, providing a basis for understanding the structure and behavior of aquatic environments. Researchers collect measurements through the water column and compare the resulting patterns to identify stratification, mixing, and density variations, because temperature and salinity together control seawater density. These profiles help characterize water masses, locate boundaries such as the thermocline and halocline, and assess processes that influence circulation, nutrient transport, and marine ecosystems. Repeated profiling also supports studies of climate variability, ocean dynamics, and environmental change.

A Hypertonic Saline Injection Technique for Inducing Glaucoma in Rats

2025

This video demonstrates glaucoma induction in an anesthetized rat by injecting hypertonic saline into the episcleral vein. The saline enters the trabecular meshwork via Schlemm's canal, causing tissue scarring, which blocks aqueous humor outflow and raises intraocular pressure. The elevated pressure damages retinal ganglion cells, leading to glaucoma.

Salinity Tolerance of Alishewanella Species Isolated from Seawall Muddy Water

Begin with a culture of Alishewanella, a Gram-negative, salt-tolerant bacterium.Next, streak the culture onto agar plates containing increasing concentrations of sodium chloride to simulate varying levels of saline stress.Overlay each plate with a layer of unsolidified medium to prevent oxygen diffusion and maintain the culture in an oxygen-limited environment.Seal and incubate the plates at an optimum temperature to support bacterial growth.During incubation, the bacterium exhibits varying...

Salinity-dependent Toxicity Assay of Silver Nanocolloids Using Medaka Eggs

Embryonic stages are the most susceptible to xenobiotics. Although chemical toxicity depends on salinity, no method exists to test the salinity dependence of toxicity to aquatic organisms. Here, we describe a new and high-throughput method for determining the salinity dependence of toxicity to aquatic embryos.

Saline Lavage for Sampling of the Canine Nasal Immune Microenvironment

2024

Saline nasal lavage can be used to sample the canine nasal immune microenvironment. Because the approach is relatively non-invasive and does not disrupt the nasal tissues, it can be performed serially. Cells and proteins collected from the nasal lavage technique can be processed for various laboratory analyses.

Expression Profiling with Microarrays

2023

Microarrays are important tools for profiling gene expression, and are based on complementary binding between probes that are attached to glass chips and nucleic acids derived from samples. Using these arrays, scientists can simultaneously evaluate the expression of thousands of genes. In addition, the expression profiles of different cells or tissue types can be compared, allowing researchers to deduce how the expression of different genes change during biological processes, and thus gain...
