Bacterial Swab Technique

Bacterial swab technique is a sterile specimen-collection method used to sample bacteria from a defined body surface, wound, or environmental site for laboratory analysis. A sterile swab is rotated across the target area to lift microorganisms and cellular material, then placed in appropriate transport medium or applied to culture media, where organisms can be recovered and characterized under controlled conditions. In immunology and infection research, careful swabbing helps determine whether bacterial colonization or infection is present, supports antimicrobial susceptibility testing, and provides material for studying host inflammatory responses. Consistent sampling, aseptic handling, and accurate site documentation improve result reliability.

(2018).This video demonstrates the preparation of a monoclonal bacterial culture for mineral production through serial dilution and colony isolation on an agar plate. By shaking the plate with glass beads, individual cells are spatially separated to form genetically uniform colonies, which are then transferred to liquid media for growth. The culture with the...

A Technique to Establish a Bacterial Infection Model in Insect Larvae

2025

This video demonstrates a method to establish a Mycobacterium bovis infection model in the larvae of the greater wax moth, Galleria mellonella. A bioluminescent strain of Mycobacterium bovis BCG is injected into the hemolymph of the larva to establish infection, and the bioluminescence is measured at predefined intervals to study the progress of infection.
