Cicatrizing Conjunctivitis

Cicatrizing conjunctivitis is a group of chronic disorders in which conjunctival inflammation causes progressive scarring, making it important in ocular immunology and infection. Persistent immune or infectious injury activates fibroblasts and promotes extracellular-matrix deposition, leading to conjunctival shrinkage, adhesions, and altered eyelid–ocular surface anatomy. Triggers include autoimmune disease, severe infection, medications, and trauma, while ongoing inflammation can disrupt the tear film and damage the cornea. Recognizing the underlying cause supports timely diagnosis and treatment, helping prevent symblepharon, severe dry eye, corneal injury, and vision loss.

Source: Laboratory of Jonathan Flombaum—Johns Hopkins University How do people find objects in cluttered visual scenes? Think, for example, of looking for keys on a messy desk, finding the ripest-looking fruit at the grocery store, locating your car when you can’t quite remember where you parked it, or finding an old friend at an airport exit gate. Clearly, an understanding of visual perception is going to play a role in any answers, and more specifically, an understanding of visual attention...

The method presented here comprises the precise injury of live zebrafish embryos with high-energy laser pulses and the subsequent analysis of these injuries and their recovery with time. We also show how genetically labeled single or groups of skeletal muscle cells can be tracked during and after laser light induced damage.
