Patient Sample Analysis

Patient sample analysis is the systematic examination of clinical specimens to identify immune responses, infectious agents, or disease-related biomarkers. In immunology and infection research, samples such as blood, serum, swabs, or tissue are collected, preserved, and processed before assays detect antibodies, antigens, pathogen nucleic acids, or immune cells. Techniques including immunoassays, molecular testing, and flow cytometry convert biological signals into measurable results that support diagnosis, pathogen characterization, treatment monitoring, and epidemiological studies. Careful sample handling, appropriate controls, and validated analytical methods are essential for producing reliable data and translating patient findings into clinical and research insights.

Circulating tumor cells are isolated from the blood of cancer patients without inflicting cellular damage. Isolation of tumor cells is accomplished using a bimolecular surface of E-selectin in addition to antibodies against epithelial markers. A nanotube coating specifically promotes cancer cell adhesion resulting in high capture purities.

Carbon and Nitrogen Analysis of Environmental Samples

2023

Source: Laboratories of Margaret Workman and Kimberly Frye - Depaul University Elemental Analysis is a method used to determine elemental composition of a material. In environmental samples such as soils, scientists are particularly interested in the amounts of two ecologically important elements, nitrogen and carbon. Elemental analysis by the flash combustion technique works by oxidizing the sample with a catalyst through combustion in a high-temperature chamber. The products of combustion are...
