Osculating Plane

The osculating plane is the plane that most closely approximates a smooth space curve at a point, capturing its local bending beyond the tangent line. For a parametrized curve, it is spanned by the tangent vector and the principal normal vector, provided the velocity and acceleration are not parallel; equivalently, its normal is the binormal obtained from the cross product of these vectors. In mathematics, the osculating plane helps describe curvature and torsion, analyze the local geometry of trajectories, and model the instantaneous motion of particles and paths in three-dimensional space.

In Vitro Recording of Theta Oscillations in the Mouse Hippocampus

2025

This video demonstrates the recording of rhythmic neuronal network activity, also known as theta oscillations, in an isolated hippocampus. Electrodes are inserted into various layers and spatial positions to detect and analyze theta oscillations. This shows the unique neuronal compositions and the connectivity of the neuronal network across different layers of the hippocampus.

Forced Oscillations

2025

When an oscillator is forced with a periodic driving force, the motion may seem chaotic. The motions of such oscillators are known as transients. After the transients die out, the oscillator reaches a steady state, where the motion is periodic, and the displacement is determined. Using the equations of force and motion, the amplitude of the driven oscillator is obtained. It depends on the natural and driving frequency. In the equation for amplitude, when the driving frequency is much smaller...

Oscillations In An LC Circuit

2026

An idealized LC circuit of zero resistance can oscillate without any source of emf by shifting the energy stored in the circuit between the electric and magnetic fields. In such an LC circuit, if the capacitor contains a charge q before the switch is closed, then all the energy of the circuit is initially stored in the electric field of the capacitor. This energy is given by When the switch is closed, the capacitor begins to discharge, producing a current in the circuit. The current, in turn,...

High-density electroencephalography (dEEG) is being used increasingly to study brain development and plasticity in the early years of life. Here we present an application of sophisticated analysis techniques that builds on traditional EEG recording to understand the oscillatory dynamics of rapid auditory processing in the infant brain.

Parametric optomechanical excitations have recently been experimentally demonstrated in microfluidic optomechanical resonators by means of optical radiation pressure and stimulated Brillouin scattering. This paper describes the fabrication of these microfluidic resonators along with methodologies for generating and verifying optomechanical oscillations.
