Steady Flight Monitoring

Steady Flight Monitoring is the mathematical tracking of an aircraft’s motion to determine whether its flight state remains stable over time. It typically compares measurements such as altitude, airspeed, heading, and vertical or lateral rates with reference values, using functions, differences, and rates of change to identify departures from steady conditions. These measurements can be organized as time series, modeled with equations, and evaluated through error thresholds or graphical trends. In mathematics and flight-related research, this approach supports stability assessment, control-system evaluation, anomaly detection, and safer interpretation of flight data.

2015

Flight in insects is influenced by a number of factors and the propensity to disperse is an important variable in understanding insect ecology and biological control strategies. We describe the construction and use of a simple, relatively inexpensive, and flexible flight mill for measuring parameters of tethered flight in insects.

We present a novel surgical procedure to implant electrodes in Manduca sexta during its early metamorphic stages. This technique allows mechanically stable and electrically reliable coupling with the neuromuscular tissue to study flight neurophysiology dynamics. We also present a novel magnetic levitation platform for tethered studies of insect yaw.

Time courses for the glycosylase activity of 8-oxoguanine DNA glycosylase are biphasic exhibiting a burst of product formation and a linear steady-state phase. Utilizing quench-flow techniques, the burst and the steady-state rates can be measured, which correspond to excision of 8-oxoguanine and release of the glycosylase from the product DNA, respectively.
