Anastomotic Integrity

Anastomotic integrity is the ability of a surgically created connection between two hollow structures, such as bowel segments or blood vessels, to remain mechanically sound and leak-free during healing. It develops as accurately opposed tissues stabilize through hemostasis, inflammation, collagen deposition, revascularization, and restoration of the epithelial or endothelial lining, while adequate blood flow and limited tension support repair. In medicine, evaluating and preserving anastomotic integrity helps clinicians reduce leaks, bleeding, infection, and tissue separation after surgery. The concept guides operative technique, postoperative monitoring, and research into materials, perfusion assessment, and interventions that improve healing and patient outcomes.

Here we present a murine model for femoral artery anastomosis, offering researchers a valuable animal model to study and simulate vascular anastomotic stenosis. This development is crucial for advancing our understanding of the pathophysiology underlying this condition and facilitating more accurate and effective research into vascular diseases.

Integration by Parts: Indefinite Integrals

2026

Integration by parts is a fundamental technique in calculus for evaluating integrals involving the product of two functions. It is particularly useful when direct integration is not feasible. The method is based on the product rule for differentiation, which states that the derivative of a product equals the derivative of the first function times the second, plus the first function times the derivative of the second. By integrating this identity and rearranging terms, the integration by parts...

We describe a novel intrathoracic esophagogastric anastomotic technique designed to create a large diameter anastomosis while simultaneously maintaining conduit blood supply to minimize the incidence of anastomotic leaks and strictures. Construction and orientation of the stomach conduit designed to optimize upper gastrointestinal tract function is also described.

Integration by Parts: Definite Integrals

Definite integrals involving the product of two functions over a fixed interval can be evaluated using integration by parts. This method rewrites the integral as the difference of a product evaluated at the endpoints and a remaining definite integral that is often simpler to compute.A representative example is the definite integral of the inverse tangent function. Since there is no direct integration formula for arctan ⁡x, the integrand is rewritten as a product of arctan⁡ x and the constant...
