Bedside Exploration

Bedside exploration is the systematic assessment of a patient at the point of care, combining clinical observation, conversation, and physical examination to understand health problems and guide decisions. It works by gathering a focused history, evaluating signs such as general appearance and vital signs, and using targeted examination maneuvers to connect symptoms with possible underlying conditions. In medicine, this approach supports differential diagnosis, treatment planning, and ongoing monitoring while helping clinicians recognize changes quickly and communicate directly with patients. It also provides a practical foundation for teaching clinical reasoning by linking biomedical knowledge with evidence gathered from an individual patient.

Higher order restricted, repetitive behaviors (RRBs) disrupt the lives of affected individuals. These behaviors are challenging to model in rodents, making basic biomedical research into potential treatments or interventions for RRBs difficult. Here we describe novel object exploration as a potential assay for higher order RRBs in mice.

It is unclear how top-down signals from the ventral visual stream affect movement. We developed a paradigm to test motor behavior towards a target on a 3D depth inversion illusion. Significant differences are reported in both deliberate, goal-directed movements and automatic actions under illusory and veridical viewing conditions.
