Ct Scan Anatomy

CT scan anatomy is the study of anatomical structures as they appear on computed tomography images, helping clinicians interpret the body in precise cross-sectional views. During a CT examination, rotating X-ray beams measure tissue attenuation from multiple angles, and a computer reconstructs these measurements into axial, coronal, or sagittal images; differences in density distinguish bone, soft tissue, air, and fluid. Knowledge of normal CT anatomy supports accurate identification of organs, vessels, and tissue planes in medicine. It provides the foundation for detecting trauma, tumors, infection, bleeding, and other abnormalities, while contrast-enhanced imaging can improve visualization of vascular and soft-tissue structures.

Source: Alycia G. Berman, James A. Schaber, and Craig J. Goergen, Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering, Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana Here we will demonstrate the fundamentals of single-photon emission computed tomography/computed tomography (SPECT/CT) imaging using mice. The technique involves injecting a radionuclide into a mouse, imaging the animal after it is distributed throughout the body, and then reconstructing the produced images to create a volumetric dataset. This can...

Micro-CT is a non-destructive tool that can analyze plant structures in three dimensions. The present protocol describes the sample preparation to leverage micro-CT to analyze parasitic plant structure and function. Different species are used to highlight the advantages of this method when coupled with specific preparations.

Source: Peiman Shahbeigi-Roodposhti and Sina Shahbazmohamadi, Biomedical Engineering Department, University of Connecticut, Storrs, Connecticut It's a little-known fact that the discovery and (inadvertent) use of X-rays garnered the first ever Nobel Prize in Physics. The famous X-ray image of Dr. Röntgen's wife's hand from 1895 that sent shock waves through the scientific community looks like most modern day 2D medical X-ray images. Though it is not the newest technology, X-ray absorption...
