Epidural Icp Monitoring

Epidural intracranial pressure (ICP) monitoring is a minimally invasive method for continuously measuring pressure inside the skull, helping clinicians detect dangerous pressure elevations that can compromise brain perfusion. A small pressure-sensitive sensor is positioned between the inner skull and the dura mater, where changes in intracranial pressure are transmitted to the device and converted into an electronic signal for display and recording. In medicine, epidural ICP monitoring supports the assessment of patients with traumatic brain injury, cerebral edema, hydrocephalus, or other conditions that increase intracranial pressure. The resulting measurements help guide interventions, evaluate treatment response, and reduce the risk of secondary neurological injury.

2012

A novel technique to record the pressures within the skull is described. The minimally invasive method uses a fibre-optic pressure sensing system to accurately measure intracranial pressure (ICP) in anaesthetized rats without causing significant brain trauma. The technique may be used in a wide range of experimental models.

Non-restraining EEG Radiotelemetry: Epidural and Deep Intracerebral Stereotaxic EEG Electrode Placement

Non-restraining EEG radiotelemetry is a valuable methodological approach to record in vivo long-term electroencephalograms from freely moving rodents. This detailed protocol describes stereotaxic epidural and deep intracerebral electrode placement in different brain regions in order to obtain reliable recordings of CNS rhythmicity and CNS related behavioral stages.

Local Anesthetics: Clinical Application as Epidural Anesthesia

2023

Epidural anesthetics are administered in the fat-filled epidural space, the outermost part of the spinal canal. This technique is commonly employed for pain management and anesthesia during lower abdomen and pelvis surgeries or labor and delivery. Since epidural anesthetics can be infused through an epidural catheter, all types of drugs, including short-acting ones, can be administered. Chloroprocaine and lidocaine are examples of short and long-duration anesthetics, respectively. Bupivacaine...

Size exclusion chromatography hyphenated with inductively coupled plasma - mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) is a powerful tool to measure changes in the abundance of metalloproteins directly from biological samples. Here we describe a set of metalloprotein standards used to estimate molecular mass and the amount of metal associated with unknown proteins.

Inductively Coupled Plasma-Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS): Interferences

2024

Inductively coupled plasma–mass spectrometry (ICP–MS) is a highly selective and sensitive technique for accurate elemental analysis. Though the analysis of ICP–MS mass spectra is comparatively straightforward, it is affected by spectroscopic and non-spectroscopic interferences. Spectroscopic interferences arise when the plasma contains ionic species with an m/z value the same as the analyte ion. Spectroscopic interference can be categorized as isobaric, polyatomic ions, and refractory oxide ion...
