Image Integration

Image integration is the process of combining images from different sources, modalities, or time points into a coherent representation, helping clinicians and researchers interpret complex medical information. It typically uses image registration to align datasets according to shared anatomical features, followed by image fusion or overlay methods that preserve complementary structural and functional details. In medicine, integrated images can support diagnosis, treatment planning, image-guided procedures, and monitoring of disease progression by improving anatomical localization and comparison across examinations. These approaches also strengthen quantitative analysis and multimodal research, linking findings from techniques such as magnetic resonance imaging, computed tomography, ultrasound, and molecular imaging.

Implantation of autologous and allogeneic bone grafts constitute accepted approaches to treat major craniofacial bone loss. Yet the effect of graft composition on the interplay among neovascularization, cell differentiation and bone formation is unclear. We present a multimodal imaging protocol aimed to elucidate the angiogenesis-osteogenesis interdependence at the graft proximity.

This protocol describes the fabrication of an implantable integrated imaging window using 3D laser printing. The window consists of a system of microlenses coupled with micro-scaffolds. The method involves two-photon polymerization (2PP) of the biocompatible photoresist SZ2080 in a continuous sequence, optimizing manufacturing efficiency and alignment between the different components.
