Ir700 Dye Laser

The Ir700 dye laser is a near-infrared light source designed to activate IR700-based photosensitizers, an approach studied in targeted cancer treatment and biomedical research. When IR700 is linked to an antibody and binds a specific cell-surface antigen, laser illumination near 690 nm triggers photochemical changes in the dye that disrupt the cell membrane and cause rapid cell death. This selective photoimmunotherapy can damage antigen-bearing tumor cells while limiting exposure to surrounding tissue, making it useful for investigating precision oncology, targeted drug delivery, and immune-mediated treatment responses. Its clinical significance depends on accurate targeting, controlled light delivery, and continued evaluation of safety and therapeutic efficacy.

FM Dyes in Vesicle Recycling

2023

FM dyes are a class of fluorescent molecules that has found important use in studying the vesicle recycling process. By virtue of a chemical structure, these molecules can insert themselves into the outer leaflet of phospholipid bilayer membranes. After membrane insertion, they are internalized into the cell via endocytosed vesicles, and released when these vesicles recycle back to the membrane. Since, these dyes fluoresce strongly in the hydrophobic environment within membranes and weakly in...

(2019)This video demonstrates the procedure for using photoacoustic imaging to observe changes in the cortical vessels of an anesthetized rat. The process includes baseline imaging, dye injection, and analysis of dye absorption and clearance during wash-in and wash-out.

Dye-sensitized Solar Cells

Source: Tamara M. Powers, Department of Chemistry, Texas A&M University Today's modern world requires the use of a large amount of energy. While we harness energy from fossil fuels such as coal and oil, these sources are nonrenewable and thus the supply is limited. To maintain our global lifestyle, we must extract energy from renewable sources. The most promising renewable source, in terms of abundance, is the sun, which provides us with more than enough solar energy to fully fuel our...
