Jejunal Wrapping Method

The jejunal wrapping method is a surgical technique that uses a mobilized segment of jejunum to encircle or cover a selected abdominal structure, creating a vascularized tissue layer for reconstruction or protection. After the jejunal loop is isolated while preserving its mesenteric blood supply, surgeons position and secure it around the target, often alongside an anastomosis or repaired site. This living tissue can separate adjacent structures, reinforce a repair, and support healing through continued perfusion. In medicine, the method provides a versatile approach for complex abdominal reconstruction and experimental studies of intestinal tissue integration.

Mesenteric afferent nerves convey information from the gastrointestinal tract towards the brain regarding normal homeostasis as well as pathophysiology. Gastrointestinal afferent nerve activity can be assessed by mounting isolated intestinal segments with attached afferent nerves into an organ bath, isolating the nerve, and assessing basal as well as stimulated activity.
