Line Bisection Test

The Line Bisection Test is a brief neuropsychological assessment of visuospatial attention, particularly useful for detecting unilateral spatial neglect after brain injury or stroke. During testing, a patient marks the perceived midpoint of one or more horizontal lines, and the examiner compares each response with the true center; consistent deviation toward the side of space ipsilateral to a brain lesion can indicate impaired attention to the opposite side. Clinicians use the test to support neurological assessment, characterize spatial deficits, evaluate functional impairment, and monitor changes during rehabilitation, although results should be interpreted alongside other cognitive and visual examinations.

Here, we present a protocol to significantly reduce the mitochondrial DNA copy numbers in a bovine oocyte (P < 0.0001). This method utilizes centrifugation and bisection to substantially reduce oocyte mitochondria and may allow for an increased chance of development in the reconstructed interspecies somatic cell nuclear transfer embryos.

Assessing the Structural Integrity of the Dorsal Longitudinal Muscle Neuromuscular Junctions in Drosophila

2025

This video demonstrates a protocol for assessing the structural integrity of neuromuscular junctions in the dorsal longitudinal muscles of Drosophila. The procedure involves staining neurons and muscles with two distinct antibodies and comparing fluorescence patterns between mutant and wild-type flies. A reduction in neuronal staining in mutant flies indicates neurodegeneration, while the muscle structure remains intact.

Here, we present a protocol to use a curvelet transform-based, open-source MATLAB software tool for quantifying fibrillar collagen organization in the extracellular matrix of both normal and diseased tissues. This tool can be applied to images with collagen fibers or other types of line-like structures.

Microbial Control and Monitoring Strategies for Cleanroom Environments and Cellular Therapies

The protocol summarizes the best practices to minimize microbial bioburden in a cleanroom environment and includes strategies such as environmental monitoring, process monitoring, and product sterility testing. It is relevant for manufacturing and testing facilities that are required to meet current good tissue practice standards and current good manufacturing practice standards.

Plastic Embedding and Sectioning of Xenopus laevis Embryos

Plastic sections maintain true tissue morphology in thin sections of tissue that can be immunostained with fluorescent secondary antibodies, making this method more useful than paraffin-embedded or frozen sections for many types of tissue. The method for staining, plastic embedding, and sectioning is demonstrated in this video.
