Medical Imaging Software

Medical imaging software comprises digital tools that acquire, reconstruct, visualize, process, and analyze images of internal structures, supporting clinical decisions and biomedical research. It converts data from modalities such as magnetic resonance imaging, computed tomography, ultrasound, and digital radiography into interpretable images, using operations including image reconstruction, contrast enhancement, segmentation, and three-dimensional rendering. In medicine, these systems help clinicians detect abnormalities, measure anatomy, monitor disease progression, plan procedures, and assess treatment response. Integration with image archives and electronic health records can improve workflow, while quantitative analysis and machine learning support more consistent interpretation and enable new approaches to personalized care.

Optical detection of ultrasound is impractical in many imaging scenarios because it often requires stable environmental conditions. We demonstrate an optical technique for ultrasound sensing in volatile environments with miniaturization and sensitivity levels appropriate for optoacoustic imaging in restrictive scenarios, e.g. intravascular applications.
