Normal Tissue Collection

Normal tissue collection is the standardized acquisition of non-diseased or unaffected tissue specimens for clinical investigation, pathology, and biomedical research. The process involves selecting representative anatomical sites, obtaining samples with appropriate surgical or biopsy techniques, and rapidly preserving them to maintain cellular architecture and molecular integrity. Proper documentation of tissue source, condition, and handling supports reliable comparisons with diseased specimens. In medicine, normal tissue provides essential reference material for identifying pathological changes, evaluating biomarkers, studying treatment effects, and validating diagnostic methods, thereby strengthening disease research and improving the interpretation of clinical findings.

Cancer Associated Fibroblasts (CAFs) facilitate tumor initiation, growth and progression through signaling that promotes proliferation, angiogenesis, and inflammation. Here we describe a method to isolate pure populations of normal fibroblasts and CAFs from fresh mouse and human tissues by cell sorting, using PDGFRα as a surface marker.

Normal Stress

2024

Normal stress is a type of stress that occurs when forces act perpendicular, or normal, to a material's cross-sectional area. This stress often arises in structures when subjected to axial loading, which is the application of force along the axis of an object. A practical example of this can be found in bridge truss members. When a rod is under axial loading, the internal forces and corresponding stress are normal to the plane of the section, so it is termed normal stress. It's important to...
