Operative Time Reduction

Operative time reduction is the deliberate shortening of the time required to complete a surgical procedure while preserving patient safety, technical quality, and intended clinical outcomes. It is achieved by identifying delays across the perioperative workflow and applying measures such as preoperative planning, standardized procedures, coordinated team communication, efficient instrument setup, and timely responses to intraoperative demands. In medicine, reducing operative time can improve operating-room efficiency, increase procedural capacity, and limit prolonged exposure to anesthesia and the surgical environment. Studying these changes also helps teams compare techniques, evaluate workflow interventions, and guide quality-improvement efforts without treating speed as a substitute for safe care.

Oxidation-Reduction Reactions

2020

Oxidation–Reduction Reactions Earth’s atmosphere contains about 20% molecular oxygen, O2, a chemically reactive gas that plays an essential role in the metabolism of aerobic organisms and in many environmental processes that shape the world. The term oxidation was originally used to describe chemical reactions involving O2, but its meaning has evolved to refer to a broad and important reaction class known as oxidation–reduction (redox) reactions. Some redox reactions involve the transfer of...

We are developing a dynamic adaptive exposure technique using our scanning beam digital X-ray system. Rather than exposing an object uniformly, the exposure is adapted depending on the opacity of the object. Here we show an experiment on an anthropomorphic phantom that resulted in a dose saving of 30%.

Robert M Rioux, Ajay Sathe, Zhifeng Chen, Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PA A glovebox is an isolated enclosure that is designed to maintain an inert atmosphere. The manipulation of chemicals or apparatus is done via the use of gloves, which allow operation while still maintaining an inert atmosphere. A positive pressure is utilized to compensate for any passive leaks. Objects can be transferred in and out of the box using an antechamber that acts as an airlock between the box...

A Reduction of Uncertainty

2026

Lease contracts are essential in reducing financial uncertainties that could impact a firm’s stability. One significant uncertainty is the residual value of an asset at the end of its lease term or useful life. The residual value represents the estimated worth of an asset upon disposal, which can fluctuate due to market conditions and technological changes.By assuming residual value risk, lessors leverage their asset valuation and resale expertise to manage depreciation and market fluctuations.
