Organ Extraction Technique

Organ extraction technique refers to the surgical removal of an intact organ or organ segment from a living body or anatomical specimen for treatment, transplantation, research, or diagnostic evaluation. The procedure typically involves exposing the target anatomy, identifying and separating supporting tissues, controlling blood vessels and ducts, and removing the organ while limiting damage to neighboring structures; preservation conditions depend on the intended use. In medicine, these techniques support organ donation and transplantation, enable pathological examination of diseased tissues, and provide standardized specimens for anatomical and biomedical research. Careful planning and precise tissue handling help improve safety, specimen quality, and clinical outcomes.

Glassware in Organic Chemistry There are standard pieces of glassware that are used in the organic chemistry lab. Beakers and Erlenmeyer flasks are typically used for simple mixing or to hold solvents but they should not be used to measure volume, unless only an approximate volume is needed. Glassware can be divided into the following categories: Volumetric Glassware – This includes glassware such as graduated cylinders, volumetric glass pipettes, and volumetric flasks. The purpose of these...

In this video, we describe the procedure for the dissection of the urogenital system or UGS from a male mouse model. This UGS is further dissected ex vivo to isolate the prostate gland and study its role in prostate cancer development.

Circulating miRNA Extraction: A Method to Isolate miRNA from Plasma Samples Via Organic Extraction and Small RNA Enrichment

2023

This video describes the extraction of circulating microRNA from plasma samples of colorectal cancer patients using organic extraction followed by glass-fiber column enrichment. miRNAs are stable in biological fluids such as serum and plasma, which renders them ideal circulating biomarkers for cancer diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment decision-making and monitoring. This method will help identify new circulating biomarkers capable of predicting clinical outcomes in patients.
