Ovarian Volume

Ovarian volume is the estimated three-dimensional size of an ovary, a clinical measurement used to assess ovarian anatomy and support evaluation of reproductive and gynecologic health. In medicine, clinicians commonly measure ovarian length, width, and thickness with pelvic ultrasound and calculate volume using an ellipsoid formula, allowing changes in size to be compared across examinations. Ovarian volume can contribute to assessment of ovarian reserve, follicular activity, and conditions associated with enlarged or reduced ovaries, although interpretation depends on age, menstrual status, imaging method, and other findings. Standardized measurement improves clinical monitoring and research on fertility and ovarian disorders.

Obtaining Primary Ovarian Cancer Cells from Solid Specimens: A Method to Culture Epithelial Ovarian Cancer Cells from Ovarian Tumor Specimens

2023

In this video, we describe a method for isolating and characterizing primary ovarian cancer cells from solid ovarian tumor tissue specimens. The epithelial cancer cells obtained using this protocol are suitable for understanding the processes that may lead to ovarian cancer initiation and development.

An Orthotopic Model of Serous Ovarian Cancer in Immunocompetent Mice for in vivo Tumor Imaging and Monitoring of Tumor Immune Responses

To study in vivo tumor growth and tumor microenvironment, we used a syngeneic and orthotopic mouse model of ovarian cancer in immunocompetent animals. We transduced a mouse tumor cell line (MOV1) with Katushka fluorescent protein (MOV1KAT) and here we show its orthotopic implantation in ovary and in vivo imaging.

Cited by 6 •

2016

We describe an ovarian fad pad transplantation assay suitable for studies of normal and transformed epithelia of the female reproductive tract. The mouse fat pad allows transplantation of large tissue fragments, is easily accessible for surgery and imaging, and provides the most favorable native environment for tissues of Müllerian origin.

Ovarian Fat Pad Transplantation Assay: An In Vivo Technique to Introduce Cells into Ovarian Fat Pad in Mouse Models

In this video, we demonstrate an assay for transplantation of experimental cells and tissue fragments into the mouse ovarian fat pad. This method can be used to monitor cell regeneration and tumor transformation via non-invasive techniques.

This protocol describes the primary culture/co-culture of mouse ovarian tissue, using ovaries from neonatal mice and individual ovarian follicles from prepubertal mice. The culture techniques support development in a highly physiological manner, allowing investigation of the effect of extrinsic agents on the ovary, and of interactions between ovarian follicles.
