Perforative Lift Surgery

Perforative lift surgery is a reconstructive and plastic-surgery technique that elevates and reshapes tissue while preserving perforating blood vessels that supply the skin and underlying soft tissue. During the procedure, surgeons identify these vessels, carefully dissect and mobilize the surrounding tissue, then reposition and secure it to restore contour or cover a defect. This vascular-sparing approach can support tissue viability while limiting injury to deeper structures, depending on the surgical site and technique used. Applications include soft-tissue reconstruction, contour correction, and selected breast or body-lifting procedures, making knowledge of vascular anatomy essential for safe planning and effective healing.

Lift

Lift is a fundamental aerodynamic force that acts perpendicular to the direction of airflow. It plays a central role in achieving and sustaining flight and in stabilizing various vehicles. Lift primarily originates from pressure differences created across surfaces, such as an airfoil. A lower pressure region forms above the wing, while a higher pressure region forms below it, generating an upward force. This differential results from the shape and orientation of the airfoil, enabling the wing...

Induction of a Subarachnoid Hemorrhage in a Mouse Model through Endovascular Perforation

2025

The video demonstrates the induction of subarachnoid hemorrhage via endovascular perforation in a mouse model. An incision is made in the neck region of the anesthetized mouse to access the common carotid artery and its bifurcation. A filament is inserted through the arteries to perforate an intracranial artery branch, inducing subarachnoid hemorrhage.

Perforated Patch-Clamp Recording of Olfactory Sensory Neurons in Mice

2025

This video demonstrates electrophysiological recording of olfactory sensory neurons (OSNs) in mice using a perforated patch-clamp technique. The olfactory epithelium, containing OSNs with fluorophore-tagged odor receptors, is isolated from a mouse and secured in a recording chamber. A recording pipette is clamped to the dendritic knob of an OSN, and nystatin within the pipette perforates the membrane to form electrical connectivity with the cell. Finally, another pipette is used to deliver an...

Esophageal Perforation-I: Introduction

2025

Esophageal perforation is a severe medical condition characterized by a breach in the integrity of the esophageal wall. This breach can occur due to various factors such as trauma, medical procedures, or underlying diseases. When the esophageal wall is compromised, it allows food, fluids, and digestive juices into the chest cavity or adjacent structures, leading to potential complications and health risks. The location of esophageal perforation can vary, occurring anywhere along the esophagus.

Clark Y-14 Wing Performance: Deployment of High-lift Devices (Flaps and Slats)

Source: David Guo, College of Engineering, Technology, and Aeronautics (CETA), Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU), Manchester, New Hampshire A wing is the major lift-generating apparatus in an airplane. Wing performance can be further enhanced by deploying high-lift devices, such as flaps (at the trailing edge) and slats (at the leading edge) during takeoff or landing. In this experiment, a wind tunnel is utilized to generate certain airspeeds, and a Clark Y-14 wing with a flap and slat...
