Recurrence Risk Model

A recurrence risk model is a statistical or computational tool that estimates the likelihood that a disease will return after initial treatment, supporting more informed medical decisions. It combines patient, disease, treatment, and follow-up variables, then uses methods such as regression or machine learning and time-to-event analysis to generate individualized risk estimates; model performance is assessed through discrimination and calibration. In medicine, these models can guide surveillance schedules, adjuvant treatment decisions, patient counseling, and clinical trial design. When developed and validated with representative data, they help clinicians balance treatment benefits and harms while advancing personalized care.
