Specimen Annotation

Specimen annotation is the systematic labeling and description of a biological or clinical sample so its identity, origin, characteristics, and interpretation remain clear throughout medical investigation. It combines standardized identifiers and metadata, such as specimen type, collection site, time, and relevant findings, with structured descriptions of visible or measured features; in pathology, annotations may mark regions or abnormalities within an image. By linking samples to their clinical context and analytical results, specimen annotation supports traceability, quality control, diagnostic review, and research data organization. Consistent annotation also improves communication between laboratories and helps create reliable datasets for medical education, computational analysis, and future biomarker studies.

Genome Annotation and Assembly

2021

The genome refers to all of the genetic material in an organism. It can range from a few million base pairs in microbial cells to several billion base pairs in many eukaryotic organisms. Genome assembly refers to the process of taking the DNA sequencing data and putting it all back together in a correct order to create a close representation of the original genome. This is followed by the identification of functional elements on the newly assembled genome, a process called genome annotation.

Isolating electrical and thermal effects on electrically assisted deformation (EAD) is very difficult using macroscopic samples. Metallic sample micro- and nanostructures together with a custom test procedure have been developed to evaluate the impact of applied current on the formation without joule heating and evolution of dislocations on these samples.
