Telemedicine Consultation

Telemedicine consultation is a clinical encounter in which patients and healthcare professionals communicate remotely to assess symptoms, provide medical advice, and support diagnosis or treatment. Using secure video, audio, or messaging platforms, clinicians collect a medical history, review records and test results, observe visible signs, and determine whether remote care is appropriate or an in-person examination is needed. Telemedicine consultations can improve access for people in rural or underserved areas, support follow-up care and chronic disease management, and reduce travel and waiting times. Their effectiveness depends on reliable technology, privacy protections, clear communication, and appropriate referral when physical examination or urgent intervention is required.

Intraoperative video consultation expedites and improves surgical care. Here, we present a case where intraoperative video consultation between a rural hospital and an academic hepatobiliary surgeon facilitated immediate diagnosis of bile duct transection during laparoscopic cholecystectomy, direct to operating room transfer between centers, and injury repair with robotic-assisted Roux-en-Y hepaticojejunostomy.

This study compares relational and non-relational (NoSQL) standardized medical information systems. The computational complexity of the response times of querying such database management systems (DBMS) is computed using doubling-sized databases. These results help the discussion of the appropriateness of each database approach to different scenarios and problems.

We present an efficient method of studying lens accommodation by using a manual lens stretcher. The protocol mimics physiological accommodation by pulling the zonules connected around the lens capsule, thereby, stretching the lens.
