Component Resolved Diagnostics

Component-resolved diagnostics (CRD) is a molecular allergy-testing approach that identifies IgE sensitization to individual allergen components rather than relying only on whole-allergen extracts. Using purified natural or recombinant proteins in blood-based assays, CRD can distinguish genuine primary sensitization from cross-reactivity caused by shared molecular structures and reveal patterns associated with clinically relevant reactions. In medicine, this component-level profile helps clinicians interpret complex allergy results, refine risk assessment, select appropriate avoidance advice, and support decisions about allergen immunotherapy. It also advances research by linking specific molecules to disease phenotypes and improving the precision of personalized allergy care.

Diagnostic ultrasound imaging has proven to be effective in diagnosing various respiratory diseases in human and animal subjects. We demonstrate a comprehensive ultrasound protocol utilized by Dr. Zuo's lab to analyze diaphragm kinetics specifically in mouse models. This is also a non-invasive research technique which can provide quantitative information on mouse respiratory muscle function.

Source: Kay Stewart, RVT, RLATG, CMAR; Valerie A. Schroeder, RVT, RLATG. University of Notre Dame, IN Many animal experiments rely on final data collection time points that are gathered from the harvesting and testing of organs and tissues. The use of appropriate methods for the collection of organs and tissues can impact the quality of the samples and the analysis of the data that is gleaned for the testing of the tissues. The method of euthanasia of the animal can also impact the quality of...

Major Components of the Light Microscope

The light microscope is a basic tool for the cell biologist, who should have a thorough understanding of how it works, how it should be aligned for different applications, and how it should be maintained as required to obtain maximum image-forming capacity and resolution. The components of the microscope are described in detail here.
