Thoracoscopic-assisted Resection

Thoracoscopic-assisted resection is a minimally invasive surgical technique that removes diseased or abnormal tissue from the chest while using a thoracoscope to visualize the thoracic cavity. Surgeons insert a camera and specialized instruments through small intercostal incisions, often combining thoracoscopic visualization with a limited auxiliary incision to mobilize, divide, and extract the target tissue while reducing the need for a full thoracotomy. In medicine, this approach can support resection of selected lung lesions, pleural abnormalities, and mediastinal masses. Its potential benefits include smaller incisions, less postoperative pain, shorter hospitalization, and faster recovery, although patient selection and surgical expertise remain essential.
