Ventricular Pressure Monitoring

Ventricular pressure monitoring is a method for measuring pressure within the heart’s ventricles to assess cardiac function and hemodynamics. A fluid-filled catheter or pressure-sensing device transmits intraventricular pressure to a calibrated transducer, producing waveforms that reflect ventricular filling, contraction, and relaxation throughout the cardiac cycle. Clinicians and researchers use these measurements to evaluate ventricular performance, identify abnormal pressure patterns, and guide the assessment of conditions affecting cardiac loading or contractility. In experimental medicine, ventricular pressure data also support studies of cardiovascular physiology, disease mechanisms, and responses to therapeutic interventions.

Errors occurring during blood pressure monitoring

2024

Blood pressure monitoring is a crucial clinical procedure in diagnosing and managing various cardiovascular conditions. Despite its significance, the accuracy of blood pressure measurements can be compromised by multiple factors, potentially leading to either falsely high or low readings. These inaccuracies are critical as they can significantly impact patient care. So, it is vital to understand these challenges deeply and adopt strategic approaches to minimize errors. Several factors...

Chronic Thromboembolic Pulmonary Hypertension and Assessment of Right Ventricular Function in the Piglet

2015

Chronic Thromboembolic Pulmonary Hypertension (CTEPH) and Right Ventricular (RV) dysfunction were induced in piglets by progressive obstruction of the pulmonary arteries. Consequences were remarkably similar to those observed in CTEPH patients. This animal model would be a very useful tool for pathophysiology and therapeutic experiments on CTEPH and RV failure.
