Least Advantaged

The least advantaged are the individuals or groups with the fewest resources, opportunities, or capabilities in an economic system, making their welfare central to equity analysis. In microeconomics, the concept is often linked to the Rawlsian maximin principle, which evaluates policies by their effects on the person or group at the bottom of the distribution and favors improvements in their position. Analysts use this perspective to assess taxation, public transfers, access to education and healthcare, and other redistribution policies. It highlights the trade-off between economic efficiency and fairness while providing a framework for evaluating social welfare beyond average income or total output.
