Endovascular Casting

Endovascular casting is a technique that creates a three-dimensional replica of the inside of a blood-vessel network, making complex neurovascular anatomy visible for structural analysis. In neuroscience, a curable resin or other casting material is perfused through cerebral vessels, where it fills the lumen and solidifies; surrounding tissue can then be removed to expose the resulting vascular cast for microscopic or imaging-based examination. This approach helps researchers assess vessel branching, microvascular architecture, collateral pathways, and pathological remodeling in models of stroke, aneurysm, tumor vascularization, and neurodegenerative disease. By preserving spatial relationships across the vascular network, endovascular casting supports studies of blood-flow routes and cerebrovascular injury.

Histological and biochemical modifications after aneurysm endograft exclusion are still unclear. We describe a new model of endograft implantation on a murine aneurysm. Through thrombus analysis with and without persistant circulating blood stream interface, and new endovascular biomaterials evaluation, this model will help to better understand endovascular aneurysm exclusion pathobiology.
