Evoked Emg Activity

Evoked EMG activity is the electrical response of muscle tissue recorded after stimulation of a motor nerve or related neural pathway, providing a measurable view of neuromuscular function. A brief electrical stimulus triggers action potentials that travel along motor axons to the neuromuscular junction, activate muscle fibers, and produce a compound muscle action potential detected by surface or needle electrodes; response latency and amplitude reflect conduction and recruitment. In neuroscience, evoked EMG helps assess motor pathways, peripheral nerve integrity, spinal and brainstem circuits, and muscle activation. It supports studies of sensorimotor control, neurological disorders, rehabilitation, and the effects of experimental interventions.

Development of an effective brain-machine-interface (BMI) system for restoration and rehabilitation of bipedal locomotion requires accurate decoding of user's intent. Here we present a novel experimental protocol and data collection technique for simultaneous non-invasive acquisition of neural activity, muscle activity, and whole-body kinematics during various locomotion tasks and conditions.
