Image-guided Targeting

Image-guided targeting is the use of anatomical or functional images to identify and reach a precise location within the nervous system, improving the accuracy and reproducibility of neuroscience experiments and interventions. It works by registering image data, such as magnetic resonance or computed tomography scans, to a subject or experimental coordinate system, then translating the selected target into guidance coordinates for instruments, electrodes, probes, or injections. In neuroscience, this approach supports stereotaxic procedures, deep-brain stimulation, neural recording, and focal drug delivery while helping researchers relate manipulation sites to brain structure and function. More accurate targeting strengthens experimental interpretation and can improve the safety and consistency of clinical procedures.

A non-invasive means to evaluate the success of myoblast transplantation is described. The method takes advantage of a unified fusion reporter gene composed of genes whose expression can be imaged with different imaging modalities. Here, we make use of a fluc reporter gene sequence to target cells via bioluminescence imaging.
