Micro Manipulator Positioning

Micro manipulator positioning is the precise control of a fine mechanical device used to move, orient, and stabilize microscale tools or biological specimens. In neuroscience, the system translates coarse and fine adjustments through calibrated stages, allowing researchers to position electrodes, glass micropipettes, probes, or tissue samples along controlled spatial axes while minimizing vibration and tissue disturbance. Accurate positioning supports intracellular recording, extracellular electrophysiology, brain stimulation, microinjection, and targeted manipulation of neural circuits. Reliable control improves signal quality, experimental reproducibility, and anatomical targeting, making it essential for linking cellular activity with neural structure and behavior.

2014

Pneumonia is one of the top ten leading causes of death in the U.S. Osteopathic manipulative techniques (OMT) may be utilized as an adjunctive therapy in the treatment of pneumonia to enhance biomechanical and immune function; and ultimately, to reduce hospital stay, duration of antibiotics, incidence of respiratory failure, and mortality. In this video-article, we will review randomized controlled studies on the use of OMT in pneumonia patients, as well as demonstrate specific hands-on...

This paper instructs users of in vivo micro-computed tomography (µCT) scanners how to anesthetize, correctly position and restrain the hind limb of a rat for minimal movement during high-resolution imaging of the tibia. The result is high quality images that can be processed to accurately quantify bone micro-architecture.

Application and direct measurements of forces on neurons in the 2-1000 microdyne range are achieved with high precision using calibrated glass needles. This methodology can be used to control and measure several aspects of axonal development, including axonal initiation, axonal tension, velocity of axonal elongation, and force vectors.
