Needle Guidance Technique

Needle guidance technique is a method for directing a needle accurately toward a defined anatomical target while minimizing damage to surrounding tissue. It works by combining planned entry points, controlled needle trajectories, and anatomical landmarks or imaging feedback to monitor the needle tip during advancement. In neuroscience, this approach supports precise delivery of drugs, tracers, cells, or recording devices to selected brain or spinal regions. Accurate guidance improves reproducibility, reduces off-target effects, and helps researchers relate experimental interventions to specific neural circuits, making it valuable in animal studies, neurosurgical research, and the development of targeted therapies.

This protocol describes a bioprinting methodology using an automated robotic depositing system that incorporates etched topographical guidance cues with the precision deposition of a cell bearing hydrogel bioink. The printed cells are directly delivered to the etched features and are able to sense and orientate with them.

Use of pHluorin to Assess the Dynamics of Axon Guidance Receptors in Cell Culture and in the Chick Embryo

We describe here the use of a pH-sensitive green fluorescent protein variant, pHluorin, to study the spatio-temporal dynamics of axon guidance receptors trafficking at the cell surface. The pHluorin-tagged receptor is expressed both in cell culture and in vivo, using electroporation of the chick embryo.

Source: Julianna Jung, MD, FACEP, Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine, The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Maryland, USA For unstable patients requiring urgent administration of medications, fluids, or blood products, establishing vascular access quickly is essential. However, there are many factors that can complicate placement of a peripheral intravenous cannula (PIV), and it is extremely common for PIV attempts to fail. PIV placement may be technically challenging in small...
