Neural Signaling Analysis

Neural signaling analysis is the study of how neurons generate, transmit, and regulate information, providing a foundation for understanding nervous system function and dysfunction. It examines electrical activity such as membrane-potential changes and action potentials, as well as chemical communication through neurotransmitter release across synapses, using approaches that measure or manipulate these signals. In neuroscience, this analysis helps characterize circuit connectivity, sensory processing, motor control, and changes associated with neurological disease. Its findings support the development of mechanistic models, diagnostic strategies, and treatments that target abnormal neuronal communication.

Migraine and its transformation to chronic migraine are immense healthcare burdens in need of improved treatment options. We seek to define how neural immune signaling modulates the susceptibility to migraine, modeled in vitro using spreading depression in hippocampal slice cultures, as a means to develop novel therapeutic targets.

Source: Peiman Shahbeigi-Roodposhti and Sina Shahbazmohamadi, Biomedical Engineering Department, University of Connecticut, Storrs, Connecticut An electrocardiograph is a graph recorded by electric potential changes occurring between electrodes placed on a patient's torso to demonstrate cardiac activity. An ECG signal tracks heart rhythm and many cardiac diseases, such as poor blood flow to the heart and structural abnormalities. The action potential created by contractions of the heart wall...

An approach for analyzing migration and eventual fate of avian neural crest cells in quail-chick chimeric embryos is described. This method is a simple and straightforward technique for tracing neural crest cells during migration and differentiation that are otherwise difficult to distinguish within an unmanipulated chick embryo.

Small-Signal Analysis of MOSFET Amplifiers

2025

In small-signal analysis, a MOSFET transistor amplifier acts as a linear amplifier when operating in its saturation region. The gate-to-source voltage (VGS) of the MOSFET is the sum of the DC biasing voltage and the small time-varying input signal. This combination sets up the operating point and modulates the drain current (ID) that flows from the drain to the source. When a small AC signal is superimposed on the DC bias voltage at the gate, the instantaneous drain current comprises three...
