Pressure Sensor Monitoring

Pressure sensor monitoring is the measurement and continuous tracking of mechanical pressure using sensors that convert force applied to a sensing element into an electrical signal. In neuroscience, these systems typically use calibrated transducers to detect pressure changes, condition the signal, and record variations over time, enabling researchers to distinguish baseline values from rapid physiological fluctuations. Applications include monitoring intracranial pressure, studying pressure-related effects on brain and spinal tissues, and evaluating experimental models or medical devices. Reliable pressure measurements can improve understanding of neural injury, support physiological research, and help guide the development of tools for neurological assessment and treatment.

We present protocols for the application of our targeted genetically-encoded calcium indicator (GECI) CatchER+ for monitoring rapid calcium transients in the endoplasmic/sarcoplasmic reticulum (ER/SR) of HEK293 and skeletal muscle C2C12 cells using real-time fluorescence microscopy. A protocol for the in situ Kd measurement and calibration is also discussed.

The laser heated diamond anvil cell combined with synchrotron micro-diffraction techniques allows researchers to explore the nature and properties of new phases of matter at extreme pressure and temperature (PT) conditions. Heterogeneous samples can be characterized in situ under high pressure by 2D mapping and combined powder, single-crystal and multigrain diffraction approaches.

Glovebox and Impurity Sensors

Source: Tamara M. Powers, Department of Chemistry, Texas A&M University The glovebox provides a straightforward means to handle air- and moisture-sensitive solids and liquids. The glovebox is what it sounds like: a box with gloves attached to one or more sides, which allows the user to perform manipulations within the glovebox under an inert atmosphere. For manipulations under inert atmospheres, chemists can choose between Schlenk or high-vacuum techniques and a glovebox. Schlenk and...

Errors occurring during blood pressure monitoring

2024

Blood pressure monitoring is a crucial clinical procedure in diagnosing and managing various cardiovascular conditions. Despite its significance, the accuracy of blood pressure measurements can be compromised by multiple factors, potentially leading to either falsely high or low readings. These inaccuracies are critical as they can significantly impact patient care. So, it is vital to understand these challenges deeply and adopt strategic approaches to minimize errors. Several factors...
