Rodent Pup Eeg

Rodent pup EEG is the measurement of brain-generated electrical activity in neonatal rats or mice, providing a noninvasive or minimally invasive window into early neural development. Electrodes placed on the scalp or brain detect voltage fluctuations produced by synchronized neuronal currents, which are amplified, filtered, and analyzed as changing EEG patterns over time. These recordings help characterize developmental changes in network activity, sleep-wake states, sensory responses, and seizure susceptibility. In neuroscience research, rodent pup EEG links immature circuit function with behavioral and neurological outcomes, supporting studies of brain maturation, developmental disorders, drug effects, and early-life injury.

Long-Term Continuous Electroencephalography Monitoring in a Rodent Pup

2025

The video demonstrates long-term continuous electroencephalography (EEG) monitoring in rodent pups using a wireless transmitter system. The transmitter contains two recording electrodes and one reference electrode extending to the brain's surface. Upon placing the pup in a recording chamber, EEG can be continuously monitored throughout the pup's development into adulthood.

Here we demonstrate the use of a wireless enabling technology for electroencephalogram (EEG) in neonatal rodent models of human disease. With telemetry, there are no encumbering connections, thus allowing natural behaviors.

Recording of Induced Seizures through Electroencephalography in Freely Moving Rat Pups

2025

The video demonstrates the recording of electroencephalogram (EEG) signals from seizure-induced rat pups. Take a freely moving pup implanted with electrodes connected to a data acquisition system. A neurotoxin is administered to induce epileptic seizures, and the resulting electrical bursting activity is monitored using the EEG signal.

Non-restraining EEG radiotelemetry is a valuable methodological approach to record in vivo long-term electroencephalograms from freely moving rodents. This detailed protocol describes stereotaxic epidural and deep intracerebral electrode placement in different brain regions in order to obtain reliable recordings of CNS rhythmicity and CNS related behavioral stages.

Behavioral testing is the gold standard for determining outcomes following brain injury, and can identify the presence of developmental disabilities in infants and children. Neurodevelopmental reflexes are an early indicator of these abnormalities. A host of easily accomplished developmental reflex tests in the neonatal rodent were developed and described here.
