Surgical Construction

Surgical construction is the planned creation, reconstruction, or modification of anatomical structures through an operation, making it important for restoring function and establishing controlled models of disease or injury. In neuroscience, surgeons use precise dissection, tissue reapproximation, grafts, implants, or other interventions to alter neural anatomy while protecting surrounding brain, spinal cord, and vascular structures. These procedures can repair defects, support neural interfaces, and create experimental conditions for studying connectivity, behavior, and recovery. Careful control of surgical anatomy, timing, and tissue handling improves reproducibility and helps researchers evaluate nervous-system function, regeneration, and treatment outcomes.

Here, we demonstrate fabrication of collagen-based, tissue constructs containing skeletal myoblasts. These 3-D engineered constructs may be used to replace or repair tissues in vivo. For our purposes, we have designed these as an atrioventricular electrical conduit for the repair of complete heart block[1].

Construction and Implantation of a Microinfusion System for Sustained Delivery of Neuroactive Agents.

As neuroscience inquiry becomes more sophisticated, investigation of brain structures and circuitry requires improved levels of accuracy and higher resolution. We have developed a method for the preparation and implantation of a chronic infusion system within the brain utilizing a borosilicate microcannula with a tip diameter of 50 microns.

Bode Plots Construction

2024

The Bode plot is an essential tool in control system analysis, mapping the frequency response of a system through a magnitude plot and a phase plot, both against a logarithmic frequency axis. To construct a Bode plot, consider the transfer function H(ω): It has constant gain, zeros, and poles. After normalizing the transfer function is written as: Each term in this normalized function affects the Bode plot distinctly. The term 10jω has a constant gain of 10 and zero at origin jω. Each simple...
