Tissue Recovery Chamber

A tissue recovery chamber is a temperature-controlled, oxygenated vessel used to stabilize freshly prepared biological tissue before experimental analysis, including acute brain slices in neuroscience. After sectioning, tissue is immersed in artificial cerebrospinal fluid while continuous carbogen bubbling maintains oxygenation, and controlled temperature and gentle circulation support recovery from mechanical and metabolic stress. This preparation helps preserve neuronal structure, membrane function, and synaptic activity, improving the reliability of electrophysiology, imaging, and pharmacological experiments. By standardizing the interval between tissue preparation and recording, the chamber supports reproducible studies of neural circuits, cellular signaling, and brain physiology.

This is a guideline for constructing in vivo vascularized tissue using a microsurgical arteriovenous loop or a flow-through pedicle configuration inside a tissue engineering chamber. The vascularized tissues generated can be employed for organ regeneration and replacement of tissue defects, as well as for drug testing and disease modeling.

Use of zebrafish for cardiovascular research is expanding towards research on adult hearts. For these applications, quick and simple isolation of cardiac tissues is key to avoid post-mortem changes and to obtain an adequate number of samples. Here, we describe a fast and reproducible method for dissecting adult zebrafish hearts.

Chambers of the Heart

2025

The human heart is a complex organ made up of four chambers: the right and left atria and the right and left ventricles. These internal chambers are separated by partitions known as the interatrial and interventricular septa. The exterior of the heart features a groove known as the coronary sulcus that demarcates the atria from the ventricles, while the anterior and posterior interventricular sulci distinguish between the two ventricles. Deoxygenated blood from the body is received in the right...
