Viral Delivery

Viral delivery is a method for transporting genetic material into target cells by using engineered viruses, making it valuable for studying and modifying biological systems. Viral vectors typically retain the features required for cell entry while removing or disabling genes needed for replication; their capsids or envelopes bind cellular receptors, enter cells, and release a genetic payload for transient or sustained expression. In neuroscience, researchers use vectors such as adeno-associated and lentiviral systems to deliver genes to neurons and glial cells, investigate neural circuits, and manipulate cellular function. This approach supports circuit tracing, disease modeling, and the development of potential gene-based therapies.
