Load Model Validation

Load model validation is the process of determining whether a mathematical or computational model accurately represents the forces, pressures, or other external inputs acting on a physical system. It works by applying defined loads and boundary conditions to the model, comparing predicted responses with experimental measurements or trusted analytical results, and quantifying discrepancies to identify model limitations. In physics and engineering research, this process helps distinguish errors in loading assumptions from errors in material properties or system dynamics. Validated load models improve simulations, support reliable design and safety assessments, and provide a defensible basis for predicting behavior under conditions that are difficult or costly to reproduce experimentally.

Reliability and Validity

2020

Reliability and validity are two important considerations that must be made with any type of data collection. Reliability refers to the ability to consistently produce a given result. In the context of psychological research, this would mean that any instruments or tools used to collect data do so in consistent, reproducible ways. Unfortunately, being consistent in measurement does not necessarily mean that you have measured something correctly. To illustrate this concept, consider a kitchen...

Quantification of Tissue Bacterial Load in a Mouse Model of Chronic Intestinal Infection

Source: Lo, B. C., et al. Chronic Salmonella Infection Induced Intestinal Fibrosis. J. Vis. Exp. (2019)The video demonstrates the quantification of bacterial load in a mouse model of chronic infection with streptomycin-resistant Salmonella typhimurium. Following euthanasia and sterile dissection, cecal and splenic tissues are harvested, homogenized with steel beads to release bacteria, and serially diluted. Dilutions are plated on selective agar, and visible colonies are counted to estimate...

A method to establish an in vitro model of blood-brain barrier based on a co-culture of rat brain microvascular endothelial cells and astrocytes is described and validated. This system proved to be a valid tool to study the effect of nanoformulation on the trans-barrier permeation of fluorescent molecules.
