Baseline Session

A baseline session is an initial period of psychological measurement used to establish a participant’s or group’s starting behavior, performance, or self-reported state before an intervention or experimental manipulation. During this session, researchers collect observations under defined conditions before treatment begins, creating a reference point against which later measurements can be compared. Baseline sessions support within-subject comparisons, help identify natural variability and preexisting differences, and strengthen interpretation of treatment effects in studies of learning, cognition, emotion, and behavior.

Short session (≤10 min) high intensity interval training (HIIT) is emerging as an alternative to longer exercise modalities, yet the shorter variants are rarely modeled in animal studies. Here, we describe a 10 min, 3 day a week, uphill treadmill HIIT protocol that enhances physical performance in male and female aged mice.

Operant drug self-administration and conditioned place preference (CPP) procedures are expansively used in research to model various components of drug reinforcement, consumption, and addiction in humans. In this report, we combined traditional CPP and self-administration methods as a novel approach to studying drug reinforcement and addiction in rats.
