Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder

Obsessive-compulsive personality disorder (OCPD) is a long-standing mental health condition marked by pervasive preoccupation with order, perfectionism, control, and rules that can impair flexibility, relationships, and daily functioning. Its characteristic pattern involves rigid standards and a strong need to manage tasks, often leading people to prioritize procedures, productivity, or correctness over collaboration and adaptation; unlike obsessive-compulsive disorder, OCPD does not primarily involve unwanted obsessions and compulsions. In psychology, recognizing this distinction supports careful assessment, diagnosis, and individualized treatment planning, including psychotherapy and strategies that address perfectionism, cognitive rigidity, interpersonal difficulties, and functional impairment.
