Physical Symptoms

Physical symptoms are bodily sensations or observable changes, such as pain, fatigue, dizziness, or gastrointestinal discomfort, that can accompany illness, stress, or psychological conditions. In psychology, they may arise through interactions between cognitive and emotional processes and the nervous, endocrine, and immune systems; attention, interpretation, and sustained stress responses can influence how symptoms are experienced and reported. Studying physical symptoms helps clinicians assess distress, distinguish possible medical and psychological contributors, and understand conditions such as anxiety, depression, and somatic symptom disorder. Careful evaluation supports appropriate treatment while ensuring that potential medical causes are not overlooked.
