Psychophysiology Tools

Psychophysiology tools are instruments and methods that measure physiological activity to investigate how bodily processes relate to psychological states and behavior. They capture signals such as brain activity, heart rate, respiration, skin conductance, and eye movements, often using sensors that convert electrical, cardiovascular, or autonomic changes into analyzable data. In psychology, researchers use these measures alongside behavioral reports to study stress, emotion, attention, arousal, and cognitive processing. By linking objective physiological responses with experimental conditions and subjective experiences, psychophysiology tools support more precise assessment of mental processes and can inform research on health, clinical disorders, human performance, and human-computer interaction.

A detailed protocol for an experimental paradigm to assess the effectiveness with which children regulate emotion is described. Children are randomly assigned to use specific emotion regulation strategies, negative emotions are elicited with film clips, and changes in subsequent psychophysiology index the extent to which emotion regulation is effective.

This manuscript describes how to implement a psychophysiological interaction analysis to reveal task-dependent changes in functional connectivity between a selected seed region and voxels in other regions of the brain. Psychophysiological interaction analysis is a popular method to examine task effects on brain connectivity, distinct from traditional univariate activation effects.

Citations play a key role in academic writing by documenting the evidence that supports scholarly claims. Beyond giving credit to original authors, they show engagement with existing research and strengthen the credibility of an argument. Effective citation practices are central to research literacy because they reflect a writer’s ability to locate, evaluate, and integrate reliable sources into their work. Digital Tools for Citation Management Advances in digital technology have simplified the...
