Tms

Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is a noninvasive neuromodulation technique that uses rapidly changing magnetic fields to influence activity in targeted brain regions, making it valuable for psychological research and clinical intervention. A coil placed against the scalp delivers magnetic pulses that pass through the skull and induce electrical currents in cortical tissue, changing neuronal excitability; repeated trains can produce effects that outlast stimulation. In psychology, TMS helps test causal links between brain circuits and behavior and is used, especially in repetitive protocols, to investigate or treat conditions such as depression. Its controlled, focal stimulation also supports studies of cognition, emotion, and neural plasticity.

Using TMS to Measure Motor Excitability During Action Observation

Source: Laboratories of Jonas T. Kaplan and Sarah I. Gimbel—University of Southern California Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is a non-invasive brain stimulation technique that involves passing current through an insulated coil placed against the scalp. A brief magnetic field is created by current in the coil, and because of the physical process of induction, this leads to a current in the nearby neural tissue. Depending on the duration, frequency, and magnitude of these magnetic...
