Cyanobacteria and Oxygenic Photosynthesis

Cyanobacteria are oxygenic, phototrophic bacteria that helped change Earth’s atmosphere from low in oxygen to oxygen-rich billions of years ago. They are also very diverse in shape and size. Some are unicellular, while others grow as filaments. Cell size can range from 0.5 µm to 100 µm.

Siyanobakteriler, sucul ve karasal ekosistemlerde bulunan yaygın oksijenli fototrofik bakterilerdir. Morfolojiye bağlı olarak, Chroococcales, Pleurocapsales, Oscillatoriales, Nostocales ve Stigonematales olarak ayrılırlar.

Chroococcales, Gloeothece gibi, tek hücrelidir ve ikili fisyonla bölünür.
