Flow Response Study

A Flow Response Study examines how a biological system, engineered material, or device changes when exposed to moving fluid, making it important for understanding performance under realistic conditions. In bioengineering, researchers apply controlled flow rates and measure responses to fluid forces such as shear stress, including changes in cell behavior, tissue structure, transport, or device function. These studies help characterize blood-contacting devices, microfluidic systems, engineered tissues, and vascular models, while revealing how flow influences biological and mechanical outcomes. The resulting data support device optimization, physiological modeling, and the development of safer, more effective biomedical technologies.

2013

The three-dimensional flow chamber device is a novel in vitro technology for the quantitative and step-wise evaluation of the extravasation cascade of cells circulating under conditions of physiological shear stress. The device therefore fills a critical need for basic, preclinical, and clinical studies of cell migration.

Optokinetic response has been widely used to assess the visual functions of larval zebrafish. Nevertheless, the standard protocol for larval fish is not yet readily applicable in adults1-5. Here, we introduce how to measure the OKR of adult zebrafish using a new protocol which is established in our lab.

A Laminar Flow-Based Assay to Study the Interactions Between Leukocytes and Endothelial Cells

2025

This video demonstrates a laminar flow-based assay to characterize the interaction of leukocytes and cellular partners such as endothelial cells. This method provides dynamic insights into adhesion, deadhesion, and transmigration of leukocytes when perfused over an intact and confluent layer of vascular cells.
