Mouse Limb Ischemia

Mouse limb ischemia is a preclinical model of reduced blood flow to a limb, used to study vascular injury, tissue repair, and therapeutic revascularization. Researchers typically create ischemia by temporarily or permanently restricting blood flow through a major hindlimb artery, then assess recovery through perfusion, tissue viability, angiogenesis, and functional measurements. In bioengineering, this model helps evaluate biomaterials, engineered tissues, drug-delivery systems, and cell-based therapies designed to restore circulation or protect ischemic muscle. Its controlled anatomy and measurable outcomes support comparisons among treatments, while also revealing how vascular regeneration and tissue remodeling influence functional recovery.
