Chemical Resistant Gloves

Chemical resistant gloves are protective hand coverings designed to reduce skin contact with hazardous chemicals during laboratory, industrial, and biological work. Their effectiveness depends on the glove material, thickness, exposure time, and chemical compatibility: substances can permeate through the material at the molecular level or damage it through swelling, softening, cracking, or degradation. In biology laboratories, these gloves help protect researchers from disinfectants, stains, fixatives, solvents, and other reagents used in cell culture, microscopy, molecular biology, and sample processing. Selecting gloves according to the specific chemical and replacing them after contamination or damage supports safe handling while preserving dexterity and experimental control.

Handling Chemical Spills

2023

Source: Robert M. Rioux & Taslima Zaman, Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PA Since chemicals are commonly used for laboratory research purposes, it is extremely important to be adequately prepared to handle chemical spills or accidental release of hazardous chemicals, which can happen at any time. No matter how minor a spill may be, the inability to respond in an emergency situation could severely endanger public health or the environment. All chemical spills must be properly...

Source: Robert M. Rioux & Taslima A. Zaman, Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PA While the use of various chemicals in experimental research is essential, it is also important to safely store and maintain them as a part of the Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) program. The properties of chemicals and their reactivity vary broadly and if chemicals are not managed, stored, and labeled properly, they can have harmful or even destructive consequences such as toxic fume...

2018

This protocol describes the procedure to express fresh pore solution from cementitious systems and the measurement of its ionic composition using X-ray fluorescence. The ionic composition can be used to calculate pore solution electrical resistivity, which can be used, together with concrete electrical resistivity, to determine the formation factor.

We present the synthesis of the organic-based ferrimagnet vanadium tetracyanoethylene (V[TCNE]x, x~2) via low temperature chemical vapor deposition (CVD). This optimized recipe yields an increase in Curie temperature from 400 K to over 600 K and a dramatic improvement in magnetic resonance properties.
