Dmso Removal

DMSO removal is the controlled reduction or elimination of dimethyl sulfoxide from biological samples after cryopreservation, a necessary step because residual solvent can affect cell viability, membrane function, and downstream experiments. It typically uses stepwise dilution with an appropriate culture medium, followed by centrifugation and replacement of the supernatant, allowing DMSO to diffuse away while limiting osmotic and thermal stress on cells. In cell biology, effective removal supports recovery of thawed cells, improves reproducibility in culture and assays, and helps prepare samples for transplantation, differentiation, molecular analysis, or other applications requiring viable, functional cells.

Rotary Evaporation to Remove Solvent

2023

Source: Dr. Melanie Pribisko Yen and Grace Tang — California Institute of Technology Rotary evaporation is a technique most commonly used in organic chemistry to remove a solvent from a higher-boiling point compound of interest. The rotary evaporator, or "rotovap", was invented in 1950 by the chemist Lyman C. Craig. The primary use of a rotovap is to dry and purify samples for downstream applications. Its speed and ability to handle large volumes of solvent make rotary evaporation a preferred...

Generating differentiated cell types from human pluripotent stem cells (hPSCs) holds great therapeutic promise but remains challenging. PSCs often exhibit an inherent inability to differentiate even when stimulated with a proper set of signals. Described here is a simple tool to enhance multilineage differentiation across a variety of PSC lines.

Hemoperfusion and hemofiltration are critical techniques in medical treatments to eliminate accumulated drugs, metabolites, and electrolytes from the bloodstream. These methods are particularly vital in cases of accidental poisoning and drug overdose.Hemoperfusion involves passing blood through an adsorbent material to remove unwanted substances. The main adsorbents used in hemoperfusion include activated charcoal and Amberlite resins. Activated charcoal can adsorb both polar and nonpolar...
